| Celebration of Leadership!
| 8th December 1824 is the
day
| our foundress was elected to
lead our congregation |
| she received the religious
name of Mother St Joseph |
| she and nine others received
the religious habit at Cerdon in France. |

arrival of three Marist Sisters in Sydney! |

| New Life across the congregation!
| In West Africa formation
has begun for one novice and two candidates. |
| In Brazil our two novices
from Brazil and one from Mexico continue their journey with us. |
| In the Philippines three
novices (two local women and one from PNG) have begun their
apostolic experience while another three (two from the Philippines
and one from Fiji) follow closely behind. There are also two
candidates from Fiji. |
| In Fiji there is one
candidate and several pre-candidates. |
|

| September

| Celebrating the name we bear!
| On 12th September every year we
celebrate the "Holy Name of Mary" which we have
inherited as members of her family - Marists. |
| Bearing Mary's name sometimes
requires courage. This month there are Marist sisters venturing
into countries where we have no foundation but where young women
are expressing a desire to join us - in the Pacific, Central
America and Africa. |

|
| Birthday Celebrations!!!
| 29th August 1876 is the
day our foundress was born. |
| This is the first of four days
chosen for special celebration during the Jeanne-Marie Chavoin
Year. |
| Marist Sisters across the
world will gather to mark this day in prayer and festivities,
recognising God's plan is choosing the Chavoins as Jeanne-Marie's
family. |
| Let us all celebrate the gift
of life and family! |

| July
|
| The celebrations have begun!!
| A Special Year in honour
of the Foundress of the Marist Sisters began on 30th
June! |
| Across 19 countries the
festivities took different forms - marking the anniversary of the
death of Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, Mother St Joseph in 1858. |
| Calendars, bookmarks and
candle stickers have been distributed. |
| The first of ten themes for
personal and communal reflection has been sent to each
community. |
| Special efforts are being made to
encourage vocations to the Marist Sisters' way of
life. |

| The Marist Sisters' 28th
General Chapter will be held in Rome from 1-30 June 2008 |
| The theme is taken from St
John's Gospel - Mary's words to Jesus at Cana (John 2:3) |

congregation will attend |

involved in the preparation of this significant event |

| Walk Against Hunger
| Members of the Marist Family
in Rome will meet at Piazza Venezia on Sunday 13 May to
participate in the annual Walk to alleviate hunger and poverty. |
|

Eur-Africa will
meet later this month
| Where? Torino, Italy |
| Who? The
Regional Team together with the Leaders of England, France, Italy
and West Africa as well as Monica O'Brien, Congregational Leader. |
| Why? To report on
proposals made at the last meeting in October and to consider new
ways of responding to the needs of the world. |

| In the last month these young
women have begun their intensive formation as Marist Sisters - 2
from the Philippines, 1 from Fiji, 2 from Brazil and 1 from
Mexico! |

| World Day for Peace
| Pope Benedict invites
all to contribute to peace across the world. |

| Plenary General Council
| Fourteen leaders from across the
congregation of Marist Sisters will meet in Rome from 28 January
to 11 February. |

Providence

| New Life!
| A first profession takes
place in Brazil this month - Emma will return to live and minister
in her home Sector of Mexico soon afterwards. |
| In Fiji there are now two
candidates beginning to discern their vocation with the Marist
Sisters. |

we are strong" - Congratulations to Sr Joan McBride on
her history of the Marist Sisters in Australia! |

| New Life for the Philippines!
| Three young women are to be
received as novices on 8th September. |
| A new novitiate house, the first
for the Marist Sisters in the Philippines, is to be opened and
blessed by the Bishop on 10th September. |
| There are also three candidates
who will be continuing their formation in Davao. |
| Join us in thanking God for his
blessings of new life! |

| West Africa celebrates a Final
Profession
| Another of our African sisters
made profession for life recently in her home parish. The Regional
Leader of the Marist Sisters of Eur-Africa was present together
with a representative from the General Council. The ceremony was
rich with African and Marist symbolism. |

| Pathways of Promise
| An International
Renewal for
Marist Sisters will take place in France this month. |
| The group will make a pilgrimage
to Coutouvre, Belley (pictured
at left) and Jarnosse,
following the life of our foundress. |
| In addition, they will visit
places sacred to the Marist Brothers, Fathers and Missionary
Sisters. |
|
|
| April

| Education brings hope:
| A School in Guadalajara is
giving a new chance to children who have dropped out of ordinary
school. |
| The "Work
of Mary" continues
in our world today. |
|
|
|

|
Within
our new Regions, over the
next two months Sector Leaders will be meeting with their respective
Regional leadership Teams to build up their regional identity and to
plan collaboratively for the future.

group will gather at Belley, France |

The
Atlantica
gathering will take place in Chicago, USA |

We
pray God's blessings on each of these events - through them may our
sisters across the congregation be enlivened
for mission in the
tradition of our foundress and in the name of Mary. |
